On Being a Fan (neuroscience version)
As described in Wikipedia, dopamine is responsible for providing humans (and animals) with motivational salience - "a cognitive process and a form of attention that motivates or propels an individual's behavior towards or away from a particular object, perceived event, or outcome".
Among other human behaviors, dopamine motivates "desires" and "wants". On the positive side, this includes things like wanting to get up in the morning to do something cool, or the "resonance" you might feel when you see something that you really like.
Many of the items on this site have caused that kind of salience - both during the creation process, and when sharing them with others. The enthusiasm can be infectious. The feeling of personal resonance is different for everyone. Hopefully, you'll find something here that resonates with you.
